Instructions: Now that your group has decided on an issue, you must demonstrate that there is a problem. You will turn in this research sheet completed with two articles attached that you showed that there is a problem

I. There is a problem in society today. That problem is:

That the government will not legalize marijuana. Because of the countries ignorance to the benefits of legalizing this plant our drug trafficking rate is constantly at a high rate. The authorities need to spend less time on trying to catch marijuana users and sellers and focus on more threatening crimes in our country such as murders and kidnappings. The officials are more focused on finding a marijuana seller than a missing person. Or they are too busy looking in the streets for some kid to be smoking marijuana instead of trying to capture a serial killer. The government needs to leave behind some of their ignorance and be opened minded to the multiple benefits of the legalization of marijuana. Some of them being the contributon to the economy it will bring. Alot of people are unemployed, businesses are being closed, and all that means a lower income for everyone. Also patients with diseases such as cancer are constantly struggling with the pain their medications and treatments cause them. Many other diseases casue unbareable symptons to their hosts and doctors are running out of medications to perscribe.

II. Facts that demonstrate that there is a problem are:
(Two articles and bibliography must be attached)
In the article "Justices hear plea for legalizing marijuana"
The article discusses the government’s disputes over their jurisdiction over marijuana regulation if the plant is being grown and sold within the same state it was grown in. It speaks on how different justices disagree with allowing the states to legalize it within their borders since federal law beats state law. Others argue how they have no right to regulate that law since it is the state’s right to enact their own laws and it gives examples of different court situations to back up this argument.

The article, “Hawaii senate legalizes medical use of marijuana” talks about Hawaii’s bill that passed saying how patients with specified illnesses can use the drug legally. Supporters claim it offers more effective pain relief with fewer side-effects than many pharmaceutical drugs. The article also shed light on the authorities focus on drug traffickers and gives the arrest of a truck carrying 7.5 tones of marijuana on a highway in Baja California, and a truck carrying 5,332 packets of the drug travelling towards Tijuana.
